Update from TYRF: New Club in Franklin County, PAC passes $15,000, Rogers Appointed Middle TN Director

I first want to thank the numerous YRs from across the state who attended Statesman’s dinner last month and helped make the event such a huge success. It was great to see so many Young Republicans present.

New Club

Congratulations to the Franklin County YR chapter which was chartered during our second quarter board meeting. We look forward to great things from their club under the leadership of Chairman Josh Fandrich.

PAC

Yet again, our members have raised the bar for success with our PAC. In the reporting period ending June 30th, the Tennessee Young Republicans PAC surpassed $15,000 and we are well on our way to contributing $20,000 towards Republican candidates this fall.

Appointment

Middle Tennessee Director John McManus will begin law school in Florida this fall. I want to thank John for all his work as Middle Tennessee Director and wish him the best in his all future endeavors.

I am happy to announce that Chris Rogers will now serve as Middle Tennessee Director. Chris served as chairman of the Davidson County YRs before accepting his new position. Chris also works as a legislative staffer for Rep. Tony Shipley (R-Kingsport).

Shelby County YR’s donate $2000 to TYRF PAC

Friends,

I first want to thank the more than 50 Young Republicans who attended Rechartering and made the event such a great success. Congratulations to every county that chartered including new clubs in Gibson, Loudon, Maury, Sullivan and Washington Counties.

Rechartering and Constitutional Convention

Rechartering will be held in the Senate Chamber of the State Capitol on March 20, 2010 from 11am to 1pm. Numerous elected officials, Tennessee GOP Chairman Chris Devaney, and Eagle Forum President Bobbie Patray will attend.

Immediately following Rechartering will be a Constitutional Convention.

A Message From the Chairman

Friends,

For the second consecutive newsletter, we congratulate a newly-elected Republican to the Tennessee General Assembly. This time, our own Brian Kelsey (R-Germantown) garnered a crushing 75% of the vote in the district 31 special election for State Senate, further increasing Republican momentum heading into the 2010 elections. Elected at age 31, Brian is the youngest member of the Tennessee Senate. Brian has been a member of the Young Republicans since 1998.

Dozens of YRs from across the state supported Kelsey’s Senate bid either financially, through voter contact, or both.

Senator Kelsey’s election was followed by the announcement of another YR, Representative Vance Dennis (R-Savannah), that he has been selected as the new chairman of the civil practice subcommittee in the State House. Vance and his wife, Ashley, are members of the McNairy/Hardin County Young Republicans. We congratulate Vance and thank him for his hard work in the General Assembly.

Both Vance and Brian were delegates at our convention last September.

Rechartering (3/20/10)
Our annual Rechartering meeting will be held March 20th in the Senate chamber of the State Capitol at 11:00 a.m. Immediately following Rechartering, we will hold a Constitutional Convention session. (See below)

Reminder: Each club must submit an updated roster with names, addresses and birthdays along with $3 per member to the TYRF. We also ask that you provide an updated email list so we can make sure that every YR in the state receives our newsletter. Send updates to Don Johnson, Secretary – Secretary@TennesseeTomorrow.com

Constitutional Convention
The convention will address (2) issues:

1. vague parts of the constitution regarding duties of officers, and

2. limits on day-to-day executive power of the chairman.

Concealed Handgun Carry Permit Class
The TYRF will conduct a Concealed Handgun Carry Permit Class during the month of March. In order to conduct a class for our members (and their interested friends and family) exclusively, we need a commitment from at least 12 people. The two-part class will be held on a Friday evening from 6-10 and a Saturday morning from 8-12. The classroom portion will be held Friday evening at Spring Hill City Hall. The shooting portion will be held Saturday morning in Columbia, about 10 minutes from the Spring Hill location. The cost of the class is $75/person.
